Ordination
Women in Ministry
It has been said that times have changed since the Holy Bible was written and some of its rules no longer apply. But what people fail to realize, is that as times change, God remains the same. Because God is the same as his word, that means that his word never changes ether.
The authority of Scripture means so much when talking about a particular area of Bible doctrine. You can mess your whole life up because you misinterpreted the meaning of a particular scripture. From that instance, we are going to examine a few passages dealing with women in Christian ministry. It might come to a surprise to many of you, who are viewing this site that from scripture itself, women are prohibited to do any from of leadership in the Christian Church.
"What is called the ‘Woman's Movement' is the most insidious and malicious conspiracy ever concocted against the inspiration of the Bible" (W.P. Harvey, Feminism, J.W. Porter, p. 118).
This topic deals with a truth that must be uncovered. That area of truth is that women have a particular place that they alone must fill in the Christian Church. So many times by so many people, have women been told that they have no place in the Christian Church. That is indeed a lie, and an act of pure discrimination against women in the church. Women have a very important place in the church, but it has been neglected for so long because women are so busy trying to fill man's place that they miss filling the place that God has set for them. Woman's praise will be found in her own place. If she gets out of that place shame will come.
Let us examine a few things first.
"Things Women Are Forbidden To Do"
They Are Forbidden To Teach.
In some of today's churches and denominations the ordination and licensing of women into the Christian Ministry is permitted. The Question is this "is this act a biblical act?" Should women be licensed, ordained, or in any case be allowed to preach at all? Well, let's take a look at what the bible says about this matter.
In the 1book of Timothy 2:10-14, Paul instructs his son Timothy saying: But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
In these verses, we clearly see that from a biblical perspective, the licensing of women is prohibited, the ordination of a woman is prohibited, and allowing women to preach and teach is also prohibited. In the public worship services women are to learn in silence with all [the fullest] subjection to church leadership. The prohibition against women preaching and teaching in the church is qualified by Titus 2:4 which says: That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, and to love their children. This scripture allows women to instruct other women (and probably children also). Two reasons are given for the apostolic command of verses 12 (1) Priority in Creation denotes man's authority over woman. God could have created the woman first or both simultaneously; but He did not, as it was always His intention for man to lead and woman to follow. (2) In the serpent's temptation (Genesis 3) Adam was not deceived, but Eve was deceived.
They Are Forbidden To Offer Public Prayer.
In the first book of Timothy 2:8, Paul instructs his son Timothy saying: I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
In this verse, we clearly see that from a biblical perspective, allowing women to publicly pray is forbidden and prohibited.
They Are Forbidden To Act In Any Capacity That Involves The Exercise OF Authority Over Men.
In the first book of Timothy 2:12, Paul after instructing his son Timothy to suffer not a woman to teach, he also says: nor to usurp authority over the man.
They Are Forbidden Even To Speak In The Church.
In the first book of Corinthians 14:34-35, Paul writes to the Church of Corinth, saying: Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
The above scripture refers to the public assemblies and not the church building.
